So many subjects to choose from for this subject but…let’s stick with one thing I know and love…birds!

Fab snaps.. How much patience was required?

Thank you asarpota. I am very fortunate that all I had to do to capture these photos was to step out my back door 🙂

What wonderful bird sightings, Maya. Where were your finds made?

With the exception of the redpoll (which I saw in North Dakota) these shots were taken right outside my back door here in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Fabulous. I adore the Black Hills. I’ve been there three legendary times. I’ll have to dig up some photographs to share with you from my last visit, which was a week-long ride along the Michelson (sp?) Trail and took in all the highlights! Great times there. You must be getting ready for winter!

See if you recognize anything in these posts, which feature some South Dakota photographs:

Next time I’m there, we’ll have to connect!

Well, with the exception of The Badlands and Wall Drug, I’m embarrassed to say I don’t recognize the other places. We’ve only been here a year and have just BARELY begun to do all the exploration we want to do but it’s so nice to know there’s so much to find 🙂
We absolutely have to connect next time you’re up here – just think of the photo shoots we could go on!

These are amazing!! I love birds – they remind me so much of the great aunt who raised me who was an avid birdwatcher – but no matter how hard I try, I can never capture them clearly.

I consider myself to be an avid birder but no longer obsessed! It is really hard to get good captures of birds unless there are some pricey gadgets in your camera bag 🙂 I tried, for many years with a standard zoom lens and had very little success.

So I guess I have no hope with my iPhone then and shouldn’t beat myself up about it 🙂

Just think, if you DO get the shot, you will definitely have bragging rights 🙂

Sweet captures all! Love the little dark eyed Juncos, they just came back to us a few weeks ago and enjoy eating the thistle seed I throw out on my deck. They entertain me all winter long!

They are wonderful to watch (just ask my cat). We have at least three different of the subspecies (maybe full species now?) and I’m hoping to get photos of each and present them in a set.

It’ fun to see those birds of yours, so well caught! They look exotic to me – the species in Sweden are completely different .

Thanks! It’s one of the really interesting aspects of blogging isn’t it? Seeing some of the “ordinary” things in our lives as they are perceived by others. I feel the same way when someone from another country/continent posts bird pictures from THEIR neighborhood 🙂

I agree. What is normal to me might be strange to someone else.
It’s difficult to make good photos of birds, but you definitely succeed. I posted one series of a gull that came for lunch a couple of years ago, while I still lived on the west coast: http://vackrare.com/2013/01/28/ett-besok-a-visitor
