I’ve had this blog for a few years now and I’ve resisted putting up an “About” page because who I am today will not be who I am tomorrow. In following the idea of “capturing the illusion”, I will provide a few captures.

Historical capture: Like so many of you, I have been interested in photography since I was very young. After securing my first, full-time job, I bought a nice SLR with an assortment of lenses, filters, etc. Quite a number of years ago, the camera and some of my other equipment was stolen during a smash and grab from my vehicle. It dealt me a double blow. First, I was not in a financial position to replace the equipment but more devastating was the feeling that I’d lost a friend I couldn’t, and didn’t want to replace. Many years later, I received my first DSLR as a gift and found that old flames can, be reignited.  I was fortunate enough to spend some time where a local college offered a good photography program. I enrolled in a few classes but truly, most of what I know about post-production has been self-taught. I’d very much like to take classes or find a tutor so that I can continue to learn.

Emotional Capture: There have been many dark years in my life. I am thankful, now, that I survived them. Art, was an important element in trying to communicate the intense weight of darkness that conventional language most often could not bear. There was writing, and poetry and now, once again, photography. Photography – light writing. Light… there is light, once again, in my life.

Attitude Capture: My blog has no real theme. I am interested in too many things to limit it to a single subject. I could split the subjects out into different blogs but…at this time I don’t want to. Tomorrow? Who knows.

Meta Data: Please note that this is my work. You have my permission to re-blog my posts or share them on social media with proper credit/acknowledgment given to me. Any other reproduction/duplication is protected by copyright.  I am very honored on those occasions I am nominated for a blogging award but at this time, I would prefer to keep the blog, award-free however…I AM hoping Freshly Pressed finds me someday 🙂

I am so pleased that each and every person who stops by my blog, if only for a quick glimpse, found a reason to do so. I hope you found something interesting, enlightening, or entertaining.

  1. Maya, thank you for our connection. I feel a kindred spirit type connection to many of your images. I am a fan of David Plowden, and Walker Evans. Your work to me, complements their visions, but with a distinct voice.

    • Thomas, thank you so much for such a lovely comment. That you would make an association of my photos with such masters as Plowden and Evans might be the nicest compliment I’ve ever received.
I sensed a similar connection with your photos and I believe, I may have found a muse 🙂

      • You should buy one! I saw plenty of very cheap ones in the US!

I love horses and saw your rodeo posts… I have been to a few in Brazil, including Barretos, which has become one of the largest in the world… not sure if you have heard about it!

        • I absolutely will, if I don’t make one myself!
Rodeo is a very popular event here in the western U.S. I personally have not heard of Barretos but I know some of the best rodeo cowboys hail from Brazil.

  2. and I will be coming back for more of those unique street characters whose portraits you capture so well… lookin forward to learning more about your world 🙂
